Happy Tuesday!

Exciting day in 5th grade today! Students got to pick their state for their research report on one of the 50 states! If you have a 5th grader~ ask them which state they picked!

Get ready! CAASPP testing kicks off on April 7th! To help our students shine, teachers will be breaking the state tests into shorter, manageable sessions over several weeks. Instead of 3 full days of testing~ our teachers feel that the students will perform better if we break the test into manageable chunks over multiple weeks. Our rockstar teachers will keep you updated on specific testing dates for your child’s class.
Let’s work together to make this a great experience! Encourage your child to come to school feeling refreshed, confident and ready to go.
Each spring, students in grades three through eight and high school participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). This year, your child will take the following test(s), depending on their grade level:
Smarter Balanced Summative Assessment in English language arts/literacy and mathematics in grades three through eight and grade eleven
California Science Test (CAST) in grades five, eight and once in high school.
The Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments are online tests that measure what your child knows and is able to do. The tests include many different types of questions that allow students to interact with the test questions. Results help identify gaps in knowledge or skills early on so your child can get the support he or she needs to be successful in school.
There are opportunities open to students who take the CAASPP and achieve a Met or Exceeded score on the ELA/Math or Science sections.
These opportunities can include, but are not limited to, qualifying for the State Seal of Biliteracy for students taking a World Language and The Golden State Seal of Merit Diploma. In addition, the California State University System and participating California Community Colleges accept the CAASPP test for college-level written communication/English or Math courses without additional testing. Lastly, the CAASPP test is also part of the reclassification for English Language Learners.
You can look at sample test questions on the practice tests, which can be found on the CAASPP Web Portal.

STEaM Design Challenge-
Egg-ceptional Egg-citing Egg Drop
Design a container that will allow a raw egg to fall to the ground from the school roof near the STEaM Lab without cracking.
Design Requirements:
Your container may be no larger than 12” x 12” x 12”.
Place your raw egg inside your design.
You must name your egg and decorate your egg container.
Submission
All projects must be labeled with your name(s) and class and brought to the Egg-ceptional Egg-citing Egg Drop Assembly on Thursday, April 17th
at 1:30pm.
In this challenge you will be designing a container that will protect a raw egg from the forces of gravity when it is dropped from the scissor lift by the flagpole. You must name your container and make it look attractive because it will be on show for everyone to see when it is dropped high in the sky by Mrs. Aderman.
